October 3, 2022

Mitchell Elementary Students

Wild Friends students across New Mexico voted between Bird Protection and Forest Education for our legislative topic this year! See our Fall 2022 newsletter to learn more about the topics students voted on.
After all the votes were tallied, Forest Education won by a narrow margin. Using an electoral college process, 6 schools voted for Forest Education and 4 schools voted for Bird Protection. For the popular vote, 57% of students voted for Forest Education and 43% of students voted for Bird Protection.
Students are now learning more about forests, why they are important, current threats to forests, and developing solutions on how to keep them safe. In the photo above, students at Mitchell Elementary School in Albuquerque learn more about the importance of forests and how species that live in a piñon-juniper forest are connected.
